Oh my God, when I was reading the last few sentences at the end, I've got to admit that I started rushing and just skimming until the last few words: I *had* to know if the man and the cat survived. I was really invested in the both of them, the man's quirks and the mix of his pitiful condition and kind spirit made him very easy to get attached to.
Just one thing though, I don't know if I'm overlooking something really obvious, but what was the mirror? Was it a reference to something that happened in the past, that put him in the place he was?
